Papi's Old Fashioned

Ingredients
  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • ¾ ounce simple syrup
  • 3 splashes of Angostura bitters
  • 2 splashes orange bitters (see Notes)
  • ¼ ounce (1-1/2 teaspoons) maraschino juice (see Notes)
  • Garnish: orange twist and cherry
Instructions
  1. Put all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker and stir for 2 minutes.
  2. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.
  3. Garnish with an orange twist and cherry.
Notes
* Given the care that Papi takes in making all of his cocktails I'd recommend making one drink at a time. But in a pinch you could double or triple the recipe.
* For the bourbon: Papi uses Knob Creek while Ed uses whatever he has on hand such as Woodford Reserve or Old Forester.
* For orange bitters try Regans’ Orange Bitters No. 6
* For dye-free cherries try Luxardo Maraschino Cherriesor Tillen Farms’ Merry Maraschino Cherries
