Vietnamese Steak with Cucumber Salad

Everyone who loves to cook has at least one cooking fiasco to their name. Mine involves one of the key ingredients in this recipe – fish sauce. Living in Los Angeles I was exposed to many different cuisines that were not all yet available on the east coast in the 1980s and 1990s. [Read more…]

Moroccan Spice Marinade

The unofficial end to summer may have come and gone but there’s still plenty of time left to grill before it gets too cold. This recipe packs a lot of flavor from its mix of spices paired with both citrus juice and zest. Add to it a bit of honey for some sweetness.  [Read more…]

Savory Summer Cherry Sauce

At this time of year I just can’t get enough of the Washington state sweet cherries. They have so much flavor and while I love them on their own, they also make a great savory sauce. This is the perfect summer sauce to accompany grilled meat (such as pork or chicken). [Read more…]

Grilled Chicken Fajitas

I’m a rules follower but even I know there are exceptions and in this case I’m glad that I broke them. I received a few all natural spice blends from Urban Accents to try. Grilled Flank Steak with Coffee Marinade

Years ago we used to eat Chinese takeout with good friends on Long Island. Stephanie M’s favorite dish was boneless spare ribs because they were somewhat sweet and she thought they tasted like candy. When I make this recipe, I think of Stephanie M as the unique combination of marinade ingredients create a “candy-like” flavor. [Read more…]

Tequila Ham Steaks

I have never cooked a large ham. I like ham, but I don’t love it, and I don’t typically cook for crowds large enough to warrant making a ham (unless I wanted to have leftovers for weeks). So, when Ed came across this recipe earlier this year, we were intrigued by it as it was a change of pace in the “meat department” and it allowed us to make a much smaller quantity of ham.
